By Katie Moritz In 1890, naturalist John Muir wrote in his journal “The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” For Onion River Outdoors, a gear and bike shop growing out of a community that had once thrived within and around Onion River Sports, this is literally true. In December 2017, the iconic Onion River Sports, which had been in operation in downtown Montpelier for forty-three years, closed its doors.
